The loss of H.M.S Eurydice: image taken from a sketch by two surviors. The ship was seen approaching Bonchurch off the coast near the Isle of Wight, on its return from a training exercise in the West Indies. Twenty minutes later, a heavy squall caught the ship unawares. The storm, lasting only ten miutes, totally engulfed the ship, killing 300 crew and passengers.
