"We have not been parties to deception." Artist's impression by Juliet Pannett, special artist for the ILN, showing Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, speaking in the House of Commons during the debate on the Profumo scandal on 17 June 1963. John Profumo, Minister for War, resigned the next day after admitting he had lied to the House earlier that year in March regarding his affair with Christine Keeler, who was also believed to be having a simultaneous liaison with the Russian Naval Attache in London, Yevgeny Ivanov.
