Augustus John (1878 - 1961), British painter and notorious Bohemian, pictured in uniform at the end of the First World War. John was one of the artists charged with the painting of the Paris Peace Conference of 1919. At the time, one of his most recent notable works was a vast cartoon, a panorama in grey of the "Canadians Opposite Lens: Winter 1917-18" which was on exhibition at the Canadian War Memorial Exhibition at Burlington House.
