Three members of the 1st Battalion Manchester Regiment, stationed in the Far East, part of the British and Commonwealth defence force of Malaya and Singapore. The defence was ultimately unsuccessful in the face of the Japanese advance and many of the Battalion spent the rest of the conflict as prisoners of War
