Details

Machines covering the Atlantic cable wire with gutta percha at the Gutta Percha Company's works in Wharf Road, London. Before the advent of man-made materials, gutta percha, resin from the Isonandra Gutta tree, provided an ideal insulating waterproof for the cable.
