A group dressed as lawn tennis girls of the 1880s for the charity matinee performance at the Pavilion Theatre of pupils of Madame Vacani's dancing school. This group shows Miss Betty Coates, Miss Jeanne Stourton and Miss Margaret Whigham. Margaret Whigham, aged sixteen in this picture, was to become debutante of the year the when she came out. She was later the celebrated Mrs Charles Sweeny, and then, on her second marriage, the Duchess of Argyll, who divorce case in 1963 scandalised the country. Jeanne and Margaret were friends and their close physical resemblance to each other was often remarked upon in the press.
