Description Mary Winchester
Details

Mary Winchester, pictured after her release from captivity, pictured with Scubedar, an officer who took care of her following her release. Mary (1865 - 1955), was captured in 1871 and held hostage by the Mizo people of Mizoram, north-eastern India (then called the Lushai Hills). Her father was killed during the raid in which she was captured, in January 1871. Generally well-cared for while in captivity, she was released in January 1872 and returned to her grandparents in Scotland.
