Maud Allan in her famous role as Salome, holding aloft the head of John the Baptist. Photograph reproduced in The Bystander which comments on the scandal her erotic portrayal of a religious subject had caused, including 'protests from clerical quarters.' As with many sensations, the play at the Palace Theatre drew numerous well-known figures.
