Herbert Henry Asquith (1852 - 1928), Liberal Prime Minister in April 1908, and under his government, many social reforms were put in place, including the introduction of old age pensions. He was eventually forced from power in 1916 when Lloyd George formed a coalition government with the conservative party but returned to Parliament as MP for Fife after the 1923 general election. He was created Earl of Oxford in 1925.
