Mr Bradlaugh being arrested by Captain Gosset, Sergent-at-Arms upon the speakers warrant. In 1881 Mr Gladstone introduced a bill that allowed non-believers to affirm their allegiance to the Crown. Mr Bradlaugh was an announced atheist and had been removed from the House of Commons on several previous occasions.
