Mrs E. Cunliffe Owen, founder of the The 23rd (Service) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers[1] and 24th (Service) Battalion (2nd Sportsman's), better known as the Sportsmen's Battalions. The battalions were formed on the same principle as Pals Battalions, but instead of taking recruits from the same geographical area, its members were largely composed of men of the sporting world. She is pictured sitting in a bath chair with her husband and son, who had just received his commission as lieutenant.
