Details |
IRENE CASTLE (nee FOOTE) Dancer, who, with her husband Vernon Castle were known as 'America's Dancing Sweethearts'. The pair were incredibly successful and their earnings were high. Vernon was killed in a flying accident in 1918. As a leader of fashion, she is pictured here in a particularly elegant evening dress by an unspecified designer. The Tatler comments that, 'Mrs Vernon Castle has for a long time been the arbiter of fashion in America. What she wears to-day America wears to-morrow, and her wonderful figure and graceful movements show off her costumes to perfection.'
