IRENE CASTLE (nee FOOTE) Dancer, with her husband Vernon Castle known as 'America's Dancing Sweethearts'. The pair were incredibly successful and their earnings were high. And as a leader of fashion, Irene lent her name to a variety of hats, lace, dresses and toiletries bearing her name. Pictured at the time her husband had joined the Royal Flying Corps, and the couple were taking London by storm after their performance in the famous Serbian Relief Fund matinee.
