Rowing as a sport for women at Cambridge University: the Crew of the Newnham College boat, 1921. Newnham College was founded in 1871, and was the second Cambridge College to admit women. This photograph was taken to illustrate the lives of students at Newnham, following anti-feminist demonstrations and the besieging of the college after titular degrees by diploma were granted to women.
