Description | Nofret statue |
Details |
Painted limestone statue of Nofret(a member of the royal family of the Fourth Dynasty) from a tomb in Meidum, Egypt. When the undisturbed mastaba tomb was discovered in 1871 by Albert Daninos, the Egyptian workmen opening up the tomb fled in terror, as in the torch light, they saw the statues' inlaid rock crystal eyes glinted at them in an eerily lifelife manner-a feature originally intented to to ward off grave-robbers.
