Sir Norman Bishop Hartnell (1901 - 1979), British couturier and favourite fashion designer of the Queen and Queen Mother. Pictured at the very start of his career in 1924 when he had just launched his salon at 10, Bruton Street. His portrait is flanked by two elegant black evening gowns he had designed that year.
