Paris, France - La Tour Eiffel, Otis Elevators.
The Otis elevator in the Eiffel Tower, built by the American Elevator Company. first view shows a car filled with fifty passengers with the front removed to show the interior. Figure B shows one leg of the Tower at the base, showing the actual incline. 1 marks the hydraulic cylinder, 2, the travelling multiplying pulleys, 2 stationary multiplying pulleys, 4, double landing-platform and 5 the ascending car, moving on trucks at angle shown to the first storey where, rounding a sharp curve, it continues on different angles to the second storey rising 420 ft in one minute. 6 shows the cables lifting the car and 6A the same cables returning to cylinder. The picture on the right is a general view of the 1000 foot tower, built as the centrepiece of the Paris International Exhibition in 1889
