Details

Patent elevator and observatory showing a man being elevated into the air for viewing purposes. During the siege of Sebastopol a view of the enemy's works was required, and two or three months before the town yielded to the Allied armies the military writer Mr Stockton conceived the idea of the elevator on the principle of 'lazy tongs'.
