Phyllis Dare (1890-1975), the English actress, who was born Phyllis Haddie Dones, c.1910. Together with her sister, Zena, she was one of the great, popular theatre actresses of the early 20th century. Pictured knitting comforts for troops during the First World War, a popular and patriotic pastime.
