Description Polars bears at the London Hippodrome, January 1910
Details

Seventy polar bears, transported there to take part in the theatre's Christmas water spectacular, 'The Arctic'. Fifty of them plunged from icebergs into the water while the remaining bears roamed about a replica deserted ship. The animals, which were transported in seven huge steel cages, caused quite a sensation as they were transported via central London. The Hippodrome was renowned for its water shows, with the arena filling with water, much to the delight of audiences.
