Picture No 10643695
Date August 1939
Description Polish cavalry at the start of World War Two
Details

Poland as a military power: cavalry, tanks and infantry (part of a spread in the Illustrated London News). Poland's impressive horse cavalry are seen here, probably the best in Europe (the ILN says), and equipped with sword, lance and machine guns. [One can't help feeling the sword and lance are going to have limited effect against a Panzer tank.]
