Portofino, founded by the Romans and named Portus Delphini, or Port of the Dolphin, due to the large number of dolphins that inhabited the Tigullian Gulf.
The Italian Riviera is the narrow coastal strip which lies between the Ligurian Sea and the mountain range formed by the Maritime Alps and the Apennines.
