Prince Alexander of Teck (1874 - 1957), later Earl of Athlone, brother of Queen Mary, who had recently been promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General on General Staff. The Bystander comments that he has earned his promotion, unlike members of the German royal family who, it suggests, 'would probably by now be in command of an Army Corps at the very least.'
