Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh arriving in St. Petersburg prior to his marriage to the Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia in January 1874. The wedding, attended by the Prince of Wales and Prince Arthur of Connaught, but not Queen Victoria, was held in the Winter Palace. The ILN sent Mr. Proctor, a special artist to record events and as well as the marriage festivities, scenes of Russian life dominate the paper during this period.
