Prince Maurice of Battenberg (1890-1914), youngest son of Princess Beatrice and Prince Henry of Battenberg, pictured in a top hat and tails with a cigarette in his mouth, possibly at the races. Maurice joined the 60th regiment of the King's Royal Rifle Corps and held the rank of lieutenant. He was hit by a shell while leading his company at Ypres in October 1914, and died of wounds on the way to the dressing station.
