Date 1945
Description Princess Caraboo by Fortunino Matania
Details

Mary Baker (née Willcocks) (1791-1864) a Devonshire cobbler's daughter and noted impostor. Posing as the fictional Princess Caraboo, Baker pretended to be from a far off island kingdom inveigling herself into society. Pictured here in the house of Mr Worrall, the County Magistrate, and his wife, after she had made herself a dress of her own design and managed to secure herself a bow and arrow which she was prone to use rather frequently, much to the distress of her hosts.
