Details

A. E. Wood, reported as killed in action in November 1917. Wood was a prominent foot-racing athlete. As a member of the Essex Beagles he won the A.A.A. ten miles championship at Stamford Bridge in 1909 and in that year also finished first in the International Cross Country Championship at Derby. One of his finest performances was of running fifteen miles in 1 hour 18 minutes at New York in 1912.
