Debutantes curtsy as H.H Princess Helena Victoria cuts a giant birthday cake at Queen Charlotte's Ball at Grosvenor House. The ball was one of the most important dates in the social calendar, and 'to be chosen as a Maid of Honour...is almost essential to a young lady's first season success'. The Ball was held in aid of Queen Charlotte's maternity hospital, England's biggest in the 1930's.
