Picture No 10019079
Date 2nd February 1901
Description Queen Victoria's Funeral 1901
Details

Arriving at Windsor for Queen Victoria's last journey before being interred beside Prince Albert. The coffin was placed on the gun carriage to be pulled by the white horses, but however, the horses began to act up and were so unruly that they broke harness. The funeral mourners where unaware of the problem and had to come back. Quickly alternative arrangements had to be made, a naval guard of honor found a communications cord and turned into impromptu harness and the Blue Jackets Sailors themselves then pulled the queen's funeral carriage.
