Description | Queueing due to reduced bus services, September 1939 |
Details |
Heavy queues in London due to reduced bus services to save fuel in times of spirit rationing, particularly in the mornings as people made their way to work. By 1940 over 800 buses from Central London were unused yet a reduction in travelling as a result of the war, evacuation of children and the deployment of most adult men abroad ensured that passenger traffic remained manageable.
