Photograph of the R.M.S. 'Queen Mary' arriving at Southampton after winning the Blue Riband of the Atlantic on 30th August that year. With an average speed of 30.63 knots for the trip from New York to Bishop Rock, Scilly Isles she beat the previous record, held by the 'Normandie', by 3 hours 31 minutes. The photograph shows the scene at the Southampton quayside, where cheering crowds greeted her return.
