Description Raising the Great Bell for Westminster Clock-Tower 1858
Details

Officially known as the Great Bell but better known as Big Ben, the huge bell fifteen tons in weight was on its side with not a spare inch either end, rested in a cradle formed of 14 inch oak timbers bolted and clamped together by rods and bands of iron of immense strength.
