Photograph of (James) Ramsay MacDonald (on left in top hat) being congratulated by members of the Labour Party as he leaves Buckingham Palace after accepting the office of British Prime Minister, 22nd January 1924. MacDonald (1866-1937) was the first Labour MP to become Prime Minister. Jimmy Thomas (1874-1949), the Labour politician, is on the right of the image in front of the policeman.
