A reception of the corps diplomatique at the royal court of St James' Palace. Ambassadors and ministers mingle and chat in their official costumes. Notable guests include the doyen M.W.H Waddington of France, second from the far left, who addresses the ambassador of Russia, M. de Staal, on the right. Major General Sir Christopher Teesdale, her Majesty's Master of Ceremonies, can be seen standing behind the chair in the foreground on the far right.
