Description | Red Cross nurse regulation uniform, WW1 |
Details |
The regulation dress of the Red Cross nurse at the beginning of the First World War. The dress is of dark blue zephyr, the apron of thick white linen with a red cross stitched on to the bib. A white cap and over sleeves to the elbow and a plain, stiff, white collar complete the costume. Note the narrow hemline at the ankle. Though exaggerated in this drawing, within a year, skirt circumferences would increase dramatically to help ease of movement.
