Rendering First Aid. A demonstration of how ambulance dogs could help wounded men in battle by bringing them something to drink and alerting stretcher bearers to their whereabouts. Major Edwin Richardson was a renowned dog trainer who during the Great War was commandant of the British War Dog School at Shoeburyness, where hundreds of messenger dogs were trained for work at the front.
