Picture No 10224958
Date 1914
Description Rheims Cathedral damaged by German bombardment
Details

Glorious Gothic architecture sacrificed to German 'culture'. It seems that gunners of the German howitzer batteries near Nogent L'Abbesse deliberately ranged on the Cathedral. Stained glass, statuary and interior masonry have all been damaged.
