Details |
The Great Circus at Wembley - The Thrilling Roman Chariot Races at Wembley Stadium. A new thrill for visitors to the British Empire Exhibition, based on the races in the famous Circus Maximus in Rome at the time of the emperor. The races, organised by Messrs Ginnett and Robertson, comprised 400-500 performers taking part in each of two daily performances of this mammoth circus in the stadium. Depicted by Fortunino Matania, special artist for The Sphere who drew many historical reconstructions (even though this is a contemporary illustration of an actual historical reconstruction!).
