G. Aliprantes of Constantinople, the winner of the 'rope-climbing' event at the 1906 Olympic Games in Athens. The Games were staged as a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the resumption of the Games and opened on May 22. Though not official, they were nevertheless very important for the Olympic movement after the failure of the 1900 and 1904 Olympics.
