Royal ceremonials in the open: at Buckingham Palace. An open-air investiture by the king - one of a series at Buckingham Palace, the scene in the quadrangle during the ceremony (top). Two V.C.s headed the recipients of decorations: Sergeant Mountain (West Yorkshires) and Private T. Young (Durhams). Final recipient was Mrs Flowerdew, mother of late Lieutenant Gordon Flowerdew, Canadian Cavalry, who received the V.C. for him. The Royal Silver Wedding Procession of 3000 Women War-workers to Buckingham Palace in shown below. After the address by the king, the sections marched past including V.A.D.s, Women's Legion, W.A.A.C.s, Wrens, Land Girls, Foresters, National Land Service Corps girls, Munitioners and many others.
