The visit of the Duke of Cornwall and York (later King George V; he was created Prince of Wales in November 1901) and the Duchess of Cornwall (later Queen Mary) to the Maoris in New Zealand in June 1901. The Duke had been presented with a huia bird feather, a sacred emblem of the Maori, on this trip as a mark of esteem. The huia was declared extinct in the early 20th century.
