Details |
A page from The Illustrated London News showing 'objects of beauty, interest and use' given as gifts to Princess Elizabeth on her marriage to Lieutenant Philip Mountabatten on 20 November 1947. Among the presents featured are electric cleaning machines presented to the princess (rather gender specific) by the Directors and employees of Messrs. Hoover Ltd, a rather cumbersome looking electric washing machine from the people of Leamington Spa and a turkey bought by Miss Julie Aloro of the United States (a child) from her savings. At bottom left is a piece of crochet lace from Mahatma Gandhi, worked by the Indian leader himself.
