Description | RSPCA kennels for soldiers' dogs at Hackbridge |
Details |
Scenes at the RSPCA kennels at Hackbridge established by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to care for the pet dogs of soldiers serving overseas during and after the First World War. Each dog had a separate kennel and over the door, a record was kept of his condition, origin, breed and date of arrival at the home. Dogs were exercised either singly or in twos and threes and occasionally, friends of the dog's owner might visit to find out how it was getting along.
