Page from The Illustrated London News reporting on a sale of magnificent jewellery forming part of the Russian state jewels, which were auctioned at Christies in 1927. Most of the pieces dated back to the eighteenth century, and were made during the reigns of Empress Elizabeth and the Empress Catherine the Second. Illustrated here are some of the most important pieces including (bottom left), the Nuptial Crown, an exquisite diamond tiara and a number beautiful brooches.
