Samoset, an Abenaki Sagamore, or lesser chief, who had learned English from fisherman and sailors off Maine, walked into Plymouth colony and startled the pilgrim colonists by speaking English. Samoset walks up towards a group of pilgrims, dressed in a loincloth, as they stare at him.
