Description | Santa Cecilia, former Hermione, cut out at Puerto Cabello |
Details |
Santa Cecilia, the former Hermione, (which had been handed over the Spanish after a vicious mutiny) is cut out at Puerto Cabello by boats from HMS Surprise (!) on 25th October 1799. A 'cutting out' operation, a boarding attack by small boats (preferably at night and against an unsuspecting and anchored target), had become a popular tactic throughout the later 18th century.
