Description | Scene showing the house where the bomb was thrown |
Details |
Scene in the Calle Mayor of Madrid when an anarchist, Mateo Moral, threw a bomb concealed in a bouquet at the royal carriage. King Alfonso XIII and Queen Ena of Spain (formerly Princess Ena of Battenberg) narrowly escaped injury, but the bomb killed 20 and injured many more. Moral later killed an arresting officer before turning the gun on himself. Ironically, the house was owned by King Alfonso's mother, Queen Maria Christina.
