Two scenes on board the P.&O. steamship 'Sumatra', during its passage from Britain to India, 1875. In the top image two 'Punkah-Walas' are working the fans in a saloon. In the bottom image an 'Ag-Wala' or 'Smoker's Companion' is on hand to light the cigars and cigarettes of a number of male European passengers.
