Scenes showing the distress of local people in the west of Ireland in the late 19th century. In the first picture, locals make an appeal to an authority figure. In the second picture, women wait in to see the local priest. In the third picture, men explain the situation to another authority figure. The homeless and destitute could only appeal and make supplication requesting help for their desperate situation.
