Details |
Divers gathering pearl-oysters in Western Australia waters. The diver in the background is being 'staged' - a process where he is held for up to half an hour at a certain depth from the surface so that he can move vigourously in order get rid of the excess of nitrogen out of his body. After diving to great depths the diver has to do this on his return to the surface, as being brought out of the water too quickly can result in paralysis.
